In this first section of the Encyclopedia, we explore Colorado's counties in alphabetical order, beginning with Adams County. Within each county, we examine all locations that currently have, or once had, a post office.
Colorado was originally divided into seventeen counties when it became a state on August 1, 1876. Broomfield was the last county created, becoming a consolidated city and county on November 15, 2001.
In his research and writings, Bauer chose to list each location under the final county in which it was situated. An example from Adams County is Simpson, which was originally located in Washington County before the creation of Adams County.

The Colorado Postal Encyclopedia includes census data and addenda for many locations, with links provided below each county title image.
Counties covered in this section include Adams, Arapahoe, Archuleta, Baca, Bent, Boulder, Broomfield, Chaffee, Cheyenne, Clear Creek, Conejos, Costilla, Crowley, and Custer counties.
