The "Colorado Postal Encyclopedia" (digital version) is a continuation of the work by William H. Bauer. His research was published in the Colorado Postal Historian beginning in 1985 until his death in 2009. New additions since Bauer’s death have been recorded and edited by Steven R. Morehead, Roger D. Rydberg, and Peter J. Ditlow.

Support for the project has been provided by many members of the Colorado Postal History Society. A number of philatelic dealers and auction houses have also supported the project by supplying images from their stock and catalogs.
