About CPHS

LogoThe current Colorado Postal History Society was founded in May of 1985 at the ROMPEX Stamp Show in Denver, Colorado. Prior to this a group of 1940’s businessmen used the name, Colorado Postal History Society, to promote the purchase of Colorado postal history and anything else of Colorado historical significance.
During the fall of 1979, a Colorado Postal History collector began a private publication calling it the Colorado Postal Historian for a few folks that were calling the group the Colorado Postal History Society. Between the fall of 1979 and July 1985 four volumes, comprising 12 issues, were published before the editor called it quits.
In 1985, a small group of Colorado Postal History collectors gathered at ROMPEX to discuss the future of the organization. William H. Bauer offered to take over as editor of the “Historian” using it to publish his research into Colorado Postal History. Bauer published his work, county by county, in over 3000 pages of town descriptions, Postmaster appointments, county maps showing site locations, and tracings of postal markings known at the time of publication
After the death of Bauer in 2009, Steve Morehead offered to coordinate the completion of the final five chapters of the Bauer's research. Morehead has now taken on the project of converting more than 3000 pages to digital format...
