had its beginnings after the Ute Indians were relocated to Utah.
On October 1, 1881, The Uncompahgre Town Company selected and surveyed
at town site to be called Uncompahgre. In December of 1881 an application
for a post office was filed. There was already a post office of
that name located some miles to the south so the name Delta was
chosen based on the fertile delta formed by the junction of two
rivers.ings. One manuscript postal marking is recorded. |
