Ames, Colo.
San Miguel County - November 27, 1906

| Established: October 6, 1900 |
Discontinued:
June 3, 1922 |
| Ames had its
beginnings as a stage stop when Otto Mears constructed a toll road
from Ouray to Telluride in 1880. Although the town did not develop
as a mining center it goes into history as the site of the worlds
first "alternating current" power generating station which
provided power to the Gold King Mine and eventually Telluride. |
